About this group

Goal of the group

• To learn about the various issues related to development by reading factually rich articles and papers
• Deepen their understanding of various through discussions and sharing their learning with the group
• This would create a group of aware citizens empowered to take initiative and create change

Group modalities

The group will meet once in a month. Each meeting will be on a preselected topic with 2-3 volunteers leading discussions on publications on the topic. This discussion will take an hour of the meeting, and the last 15 mins will select the next topic, discussion leaders (hopefully volunteers on an almost rotating space!), and the next location.

The selected leaders will do the background work on the topic to find good informative publications (book chapters, papers, magazine/newspaper articles, talks, videos, etc) on the topic and send it to the group. Over the next week or so, the group communication will evolve into a broad agenda/plan for the meeting. During the group meeting, the discussion leaders will present the publication summaries, interspersed with heavy group participation and open discussion. Summaries from these meetings will be mailed out to the group.

If for a specific topic, it makes sense to have an outside expert, the leader can suggest it and work with rest of the group to get the expert in.
